2015-2016
Fox Valley Regional Qualifier
This year was our team's second year hosting the Fox Valley Regional Qualifier Event of WI. It was held on January 16 at Hortonville High School. Our team did not compete at this event, but our whole team helped with; set-up, take-down, as well as multiple other jobs during the competition. We were very glad to be an hour and a half AHEAD OF SCHEDULE! Many teams showed Gracious Profesionalism towards our team by helping us take down the pits. The teams that were advanced are; RoboHackerz, Great Scott, Phoenix, RoboHodags, The Knack, Brobots, RoboChargers, and Viking Robotics. This competition was a success, and we hope that future years of hosting go the same way. Thank you to Hortonville High School for letting us use the school.
Annual FLL Scrimmage
Every year, our team hosts an FLL Scrimmage to help the kids in our district get ready for their competition season. At this scrimmage, we have all the aspects of an actual competition; teamwork, robot design and programming, project, and the robot game. Each team goes through all 4 rooms and gets judged by our team; we also give them feedback for what they can improve on for competitions. We end our day with the robot games, in which each team gets to run their robot in three matches. At the end, we hand out an award for each category. Overall, the kids had a blast and were more prepared for their upcoming competitions. We enjoy hosting this annual scrimmage and hope to continue for many years.
Wisconsin FTC Kickoff
The first Wisconsin FTC Kickoff was held this year at UW Milwuakee on September 12th. Hortonville Robotics was proud to be a co-host. Many other exceptional teams lead presentations about different important aspects of FIRST. During this event, our team lead a seminar on the java software. It gave us a chance to teach new and old teams. At the end of our presentation, teams were allowed to ask questions so they could learn in a way personalized to them. Today was not only about programming, but also building relationships in FIRST. We bonded with many teams, and extended hands of help for questions to come.
Annual FLL Camp
This year was our team's fourth year teaching at our school district's FLL camp. However, a few things did change. All 7 teams got new EV3 robot kits for the season, so they got time to organize and examine their new kits. Another change was how we approach the team work category. Instead of having one teamwork challenge, we had two. The first challenge was for teams to work together on their own; they needed to carry a marshmallow in a cup by strings, then dump it into another cup. In the second challenge, sets of two teams worked together. The point of adding another challenge with two teams was to teach teams about coopertition and gracious professionalism. Some other things the teams worked on were building and programming their robot to fit the challenge board we created. To finish the camp off, we had a potluck and the robot games.
